Frequently Asked Questions

Are your weekly rates nightly or daily?

Our weekly prices are for 7 days hire not 7 nights like a caravan park.

What hours can I pick up and return the van?

Pick up is anytime from 9am on the day of hire and return is by 4pm unless returning on a Saturday which must be returned by 1pm. These times can be varied upon request.

Why should we choose to hire through Eastern Caravans?

By hiring through Eastern Caravans you also gain the knowledge of Australia’s largest hire company. We are accredited by the Caravan Industry Australia and we have many years of experience in the industry. We send out hundreds of caravans each and every year and our vans are professionally cleaned and maintained before every hire. We do not operate out of a backyard and our caravans can be viewed anytime at 543 Dorset Rd, Bayswater VIC 3153.

Is Insurance included in the hire cost of your caravans?

Yes, all of our caravans and campers have a fully comprehensive Australia wide insurance policy included in the cost of hire.

Do we have to pay a bond on the caravan?

Yes, the bond payable for caravan hire is $1,200, or $2,000 for car or motorhome hire which can be paid by credit card on the day you pick up the caravan and is refundable within 7 days of return of the caravan subject to adherence to the terms and conditions of your hire.

Do I need to fit electric brakes to my car before towing your caravans and campers?

No, Australian Road Laws state that any trailer with a greater mass than 750kg must have electric brakes which is why we offer a portable electric brake unit included with every hire for your convenience, there is no additional charge for this service. If you already have your own brake unit fitted then our portable electric brake unit will not be required.

If I'm going to get electric brakes fitted to my car what is the perfect set up for your caravans?

We recommend using a reputable auto electrician (we have 2 that we can recommend). You should then request a Redarc TowPro, 12 pin plug for your car, hotwire to pin 2, 8 and 9 which will operate the ESC and activate the fridge to turn on 12v while you drive.. If you only have one car battery we also recommend a relay switch to be fitted so you don’t flatten your car battery. You may also require a grey Anderson Plug but this is only required on some of our caravans, ask staff for assistance.

Will the fridge in the caravan work while I drive?

The only way the fridge will work in the caravan while you drive is if you have your own brake controller fitted to your vehicle as well as a 12 pin plug and hotwires to pin 2,8 and 9. An Anderson Plug may also be required for some of our larger fridges, ask us if this option applies to your booking.

How can I find out which caravans my car can tow?

The towing capacity of your car will be listed on your tow bar, or on a sticker on the inside of your drivers side door or in your cars manual. Our website lists the minimum tow vehicle capacity and towball weight under the specifications section for each caravan. You can use our search feature to bring up all suitable caravans that your vehicle can tow or you can call us anytime and we would be happy to help.

How far ahead do I need to book?

To avoid disappointment we would recommend to book 10-12 months ahead for Christmas, Easter and bookings of 3 months or more. 6 months ahead for January, school holidays and bookings of 1-2 months. 3 months ahead for long weekends and we will have limited availability at all other times at short notice.

Do you allow pets in your caravans?

Yes, however this must noted on your rental agreement and discussed with Eastern Caravans prior to booking. Caravans must be returned clean and free from damage, hairs, smells, etc or cleaning fees will be applied.

Is there a limit to how many km’s I can travel?

No, the only limitation is your hire duration, you can take our caravans Australia wide.

Can I take a caravan or camper off road?

All of our caravans and campers are to be driven on bitumen roads, however, some well made dirt roads are acceptable. Strictly no corrugated roads or 4WD tracks. A common sense approach should be taken.

Do you supply bed linen or should we bring our own?

We do not supply bed linen with our caravans but these can be added to your hire for an additional fee.

Can you deliver and pick up the caravan for me?

Yes, we can deliver anywhere in Australia and will provide you with an additional quote for this service.
